J.J. receives receives Sledgehammer from Mrs. Witmer at First Family Meeting
The Attales Sledgehammer Award tradition continued in Absecon last week as Mrs. Witmer awarded the Sledgehammer to 8th Grade student J.J. at the first Family Meeting of the school year on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023.
The Sledgehammer is an award presented to the students and staff who serve as an inspiration to others through their hard work, dedication, compassion, perseverance and never quit attitude. A staff member presents the Sledgehammer to a student and in turn, that student then gets to present the Sledgehammer to a staff member, and so on.
Mrs. Witmer received the award last spring from then-8th-Grader Naa'Irah.
She said she decided to award J.J. with the Sledgehammer because he exemplifies the Attales motto: Feed the Good Wolf.
"If you've met this student once, you feel like you've already known him his whole life," she said.
