Mrs. Rosenberger and Leila R. receive the Sledgehammer Award

The newest Attales Middle School Sledgehammer Award recipients are 7th Grade social studies teacher Mrs. Rosenberger and 8th-Grader Leila R.

Mrs. Rosenberger was awarded the Sledgehammer Award by 8th Grade student J.J. S. at the Family Meeting on Friday, Dec. 22. Leila was awarded the Sledgehammer later that same day by Principal Mr. Burns.

J.J. said he chose Mrs. Rosenberger because she was an "amazing teacher" and "an inspiration" to him.

"She has always been there to help me when I didn't understand something, lend me a pencil, and overall hold a great conversation," he said. "She is a clear example of what we are trying to represent here at Attales."

Mr. Burns said that he chose Leila for the Sledgehammer after her speech during the Family Meeting.

At the meeting, students and staff heard inspirational stories from Attales alum Ernest Howard and teacher Mr. Bell, who is retiring at the end of this year, as well as from many students and teachers who gave shout-outs to fellow students and staff.

Leila closed the meeting by sharing her personal story of perseverance and overcoming the odds with the love and support of her family, friends and her school.

"What you did today in that gym was special and something that you rarely will ever see in a middle school kid," Mr. Burns told Leila upon handing her the Sledgehammer.
