Official guidelines from the State Government and Department of Education pertaining to GRADUATION.

Attention Absecon Parents/Guardians:
Earlier today, Monday, May 11th, every school district in New Jersey received official guidelines from the State Government and Department of Education (please see official document) pertaining to GRADUATION.  In review of today's mandates, it is obvious that this year's graduation will be substantially different from the long standing traditional ceremony that has served as a culminating activity meant to celebrate the endless talents of our eighth grade students, our fabulous staff, our supportive parents and community, and the great City of Absecon.  Today's guidelines summarized in the last paragraph of the Broadcast, include:
In light of the components of Executive Order No. 107, and in the best interest of the health and safety of the public, in-person ceremonies, including graduations, all parades, including "wave parades," that invite people to gather at a certain location, proms, and other similar celebrations violate the enumerated conditions of the order, and should therefore be cancelled or postponed until such time as these restrictions are lifted.  Until such time, virtual celebrations and other remote forms of recognition should take the place of any in-person or public ceremonies.
The silver lining in today's Broadcast is that we now know exactly what guidelines we are to follow; therefore, we can now finalize plans that before were only speculative. In speaking to many of my fellow colleagues today, we feel that we are starting from zero and having to replan our end of the year celebrations to fit the new guidelines.  Rest assured that this year's Attales Moving-Up Ceremony and Attales and Marsh Student Recognitions will be second to none; however, in order for us to make these virtual events special and meaningful to our children, ‘It Will Take a Village’. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation, and specific details will follow within the next week.
If interested in being an eighth grade parent representative for the Absecon Moving-Up Committee please email: Mr. Kevin Burns,  We are planning our first meeting to be conducted on Thursday, May 14th via Zoom.  In addition, if you are a third and fourth grade parent that would like to assist with student recognitions please email: Dr. Shelly Richards,  SRichards@  We look forward to your partnership.
