The H.A. Marsh Elementary School has joined the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge, and you can, too!

Students at Absecon's Marsh school will be asked to sign up and commit to “Get Moving” or “Be Kind” while raising money to help fund community initiatives, education, research and quality of care – all to fight the No. 1 killer in the world, heart disease.

Fundraising is not required to participate in the Challenge, however Absecon’s goal is to raise $7,000 by Feb. 17 and have 208 students sign up for the Challenge.

The Kids Heart Challenge prepares students for success by supporting their physical and emotional well-being. And by participating, our school also has the chance to earn PE/wellness equipment.

Over the next few weeks, under the direction of gym teacher Mr. Doug Scholder, the students will participate in a number of heart-pump activities like jumping rope, as well as learning all about heart health.

If 50% of our students sign up for the Challenge and we raise $500 for the American Heart Association, our school will receive $500 to purchase PE/Wellness equipment.

If we reach our goal, the class with the highest percentage of students taking the Challenge will earn a Glow Gym Class.

All students who register will receive a torch-shaped wristband.

For every fund-raising milestone, students will earn a prize from keychains to a jump rope and more!

To sign up, students and parents can visit www.heart.org/khc or download the Kids Heart Challenge app in the App Store. They will select a personal health challenge and set a fundraising goal.

Students and parents can send invitations via email, text or social media to friends and family to support their goal through donations to the AHA. Donations can be made online, or checks can be scanned and uploaded through the mobile app.

Students have been sent home with a packet of information to get started.
